' Aufheben is better described as 'a simultaneous breaking-down and redirecting of the energetic life-forces'; that which carries us beyond mere sublimation unto sublation. In this regard, Aufheben has, or rather carries, transcendental overtones no other word does. Never any simple 'No'; always a teleological 'perhaps'.

Aufheben Ensemble was created in October of 2023, by artistic director and movement artist, Isabella Mireles Vik. The conceptualization of Aufheben came to Vik as they continued to do extensive movement research and performing predominantly solo. From this investigation, Vik decided to create a conduit of their artistic process by encapsulating their movement style and methods in group form.

Aufheben Ensemble is a project based contemporary movement ensemble focused on experimentation, radical authenticity and a constant research of movement and body performance. Aufheben is focused on movement practices that find the states between self contradiction, speculative process and conduct investigations of embodied performance. The ensemble focuses on bringing new contemporary methodologies in both the studio and in performances, creating work that provokes visceral reactions and instigates interpersonal reflection of the viewer and movement artist. Aufheben Ensemble strives to push boundaries in dance and provide dancers with new schools of thought to investigate movement and implement in their practice.
