Cuidado No God

The performance was designed to be a continuous, uninterrupted 46-minute piece, allowing the audience to be fully immersed in turmoil of the four performers in front of them. Set inside a warehouse in 2nd ward Houston, the ample space provides the artists an ability to explore their creative curiosity and interact with a malleable environment. CNG was Vik’s first evening length performance and has remained one of their most ambitious. This piece is the first to introduce Aufheben Ensemble. Within Vik’s interdisciplinary work, the challenge to bring other movement artists on a communal endeavor in their practice was proven through CNG.

Often Vik uses personal and heavy thematics in their practice, but what sets apart CNG from previous solo or duo work to this point, is its intellectual depth and exploration of psychoanalytic theory. Vik particularly drew inspiration from George Bataille's concept of the death drive, gender dynamics, and mysticism. The performance delves into the subconscious, inviting the audience to confront their own thoughts through an entrancing fusion of movement, physical theater, and performance art. This visceral and thought-provoking experience intended to resonate with viewers long after the performance has concluded, sparking conversations and reflections on the human condition.

Movement artists include Isabella Mireles Vik, Gabrielle De La Rosa, Shelby Craze and Araiza Araiza. Photography and videographer was done by Ben White and Derek Rathburn. Costume design by Sarah Sandoval. Graphic design by Alberto Carreaga and flyer design by Tristan Tucker.
